Engineering Positions

Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed physical design of electric distribution systems to include one-line diagrams, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications, grounding system design conduit and cable sizing/routing, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, physical layouts, construction cost estimates and project scheduling.
  • Act as the project engineer for multiple projects and direct the work of less experienced engineers and drafters.

The T&D Line Design Engineer will work on electric transmission and distribution projects.  Work will include field surveying, drafting with AutoCAD, line layout/routing in PLS-CADD, and completion of required design calculations with backup documentation.  Project types will include design of aerial and underground electric distribution and transmission lines.  Engineer is expected to work independently with minimal design supervision.

Major job elements include Field survey (existing conditions assessment and as-built documentation); Completion of design calculations (strength; clearance; thermal rating, EMF fields); design and analysis of pole structures; design and analysis of foundations; analysis of lattice towers; layout of new line route; Preparation of Right-of-Way drawings; preparation of Construction Drawings and details; Preparation of Bills of Material; preparation of construction specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing PLS-CADD, prepare models, perform route selection, line and structure spotting and optimization
  • Prepare conceptual design options including economic conductor and pole analysis
  • Perform preliminary and detailed design to support bids and construction projects, including new build projects, upgrades and rehabilitation; in conformance to applicable codes, standards, design criteria, and contract terms
  • Liaise with WEPSC construction managers, clients, and subcontractors to establish good communication and relationships
  • Perform structure analysis and design of pole, framed and guyed structures, and foundations

Position Overview:

Senior Lead level responsibility for the relay protection & control engineering including detailed design for high voltage substation and transmission projects through 345kV.  Depending upon complexity of the project, the candidate may prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the engineering deliverables for electric substation projects – including the development of: one & three line diagrams; schematics and wiring diagrams; relay settings and calculations; control and relaying panel layouts and specifications; control and relaying panel and equipment wiring diagrams;  SCADA system and communications interfaces including RTUs, HMIs, and IEDs; auxiliary system design including batteries and chargers, AC & DC load centers, conduit and cable sizing, backup generator sizing (UPS); commissioning and functional testing specifications; and the overall bill of materials.

Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.

Other duties include developing technical specifications, development of project design basis, providing direction and guidance to drafters and designers, directing the flow of drafting and designer duties, insuring design schedules are met, including regularly providing project status updates to project engineer.

Field Service Positions

Required Skills, Knowledge and Competencies:

Wells Engineering, PSC has an exciting job opportunity for a Relay Technician.  This position performs various tests of electrical power equipment and also performs various service tasks to the same equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment.
  • Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker change-outs.
  • Perform end-to-end relay testing using Omicron, Doble, or Megger Test Units
  • Develop written standard commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures for protective relaying.
  • Adheres to testing and service protocols as well as customer requirements, ANSI/IEEE/NETA procedures and OEM requirements.

Ideal candidates should have:

  • 5+ years of hands on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays on high voltage substations.
  • Calibrate & perform functional tests on both electromechanical and micro-processor based protective relays for high voltage substations.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, testing, & repairing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and similar equipment.
  • Capable of troubleshooting distribution and transmission controls circuits
  • Knowledge of Omicron Software desired, not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Relevant Background:

Services include start-up assistance, acceptance testing and commissioning; preventative maintenance, predictive services and emergency response.

Physical Requirements:

Candidate will be subjected to industrial and power plant atmospheres, exposed to areas that have high voltages and electrical currents present in low-medium-high-extra high voltage substations, and intense noises.  Candidate may be required to wear hearing protection, safety harness, and other personal protective equipment (PPE).  Must be able to crawl, climb, and able to pass a fit for duty physical exam.
